WHIRLPOOL / WASHER
F5 E2— Lid Lock Will Not Lock
01 — What it means
The lid lock mechanism is not engaging properly. Without a confirmed lock, the washer will not start the wash or spin cycles. F5 E2 is the single most common Whirlpool washer code we see in Cabrio and top-load models.
02 — Most common causes
- A bent or worn lid strike (the metal tab the lock grabs)
- A failed lid lock solenoid assembly after 4 to 6 years of use
- Laundry pushing up against the lid and preventing full closure
03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)
- 1Open the lid, remove all laundry, and close the lid firmly — you should hear a solid metallic click.
- 2If you hear a click but F5 E2 still appears, unplug the washer for 5 minutes and retry.
- 3Visually inspect the metal strike on the underside of the lid — if it is bent down or crooked, the lid was forced closed previously.
- 4If the lock still fails with a visually fine strike, the solenoid has worn out.
