  3. 3Visually inspect the metal strike on the underside of the lid — if it is bent down or crooked, the lid was forced closed previously.
  4. 4If the lock still fails with a visually fine strike, the solenoid has worn out.

The washer's motor control board cannot read the motor speed correctly. The washer may fill and drain but fail to spin, or spin at the wrong speed. F7 E1 typically points to the motor control unit (MCU) rather than the motor itself.

  • A failed motor control unit (MCU) — a common 5-to-7-year wear part on Whirlpool Duet washers
  • A loose or corroded wire harness between the MCU and the motor
  • A failed motor tachometer or speed sensor
