LG Washer
Error Codes Explained.

Every LG washer error code decoded — each LG error code explained with its meaning, the most common causes, what you can safely check before calling a pro, and when to dial in the certified appliance technicians. Same-day service across Palm Beach County.

LG washers display two-character error codes when the control board detects a fault. Unlike some brands, LG codes are fairly consistent across front-load and top-load models, which means the troubleshooting below applies whether you have a WM-series front-loader or a WT-series top-loader. These are the six LG washer error codes our Palm Beach County technicians see most often.

LG washers are engineered for 10-to-15-year lifespans, but a few components — door locks, drain pumps, and Hall sensors on Direct Drive motors — are consistent wear items. Before you schedule service, the homeowner checks below will rule out the easy causes and save you a diagnostic call in many cases.

UE / uE Unbalanced Load

01 — What it means

The washer cannot balance the load for spin. LG's Direct Drive motor is unusually sensitive to imbalance — it will attempt several rebalance cycles before giving up and displaying UE. Lowercase uE is a warning that usually clears itself; uppercase UE means the cycle has stopped.

02 — Most common causes

  • A single heavy item (comforter, bath mat, work jeans) pressed against one side of the drum
  • Overloading on bulky cycles — LG drums look deep but have strict max-weight limits
  • Worn shock absorbers under the tub assembly (after 6 to 8 years of use)

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Pause the cycle, open the door, and redistribute laundry evenly around the drum.
  2. 2If washing a single heavy item, add 2-3 towels to balance the load.
  3. 3Close the door and run a spin-only cycle to see if UE clears.
  4. 4Verify the washer is level — adjust the front feet with a wrench until stable.

When to call us

If UE appears on normal mixed loads that are properly distributed and the washer is level, the shock absorbers are due for replacement. Our certified LG technicians carry shock kits for all WM and WT models — same-day service across Palm Beach County.

LE Motor Locked / Rotor Fault

01 — What it means

The direct drive motor rotor is not turning freely. The control board detects the current draw is abnormal and halts the cycle to protect the motor. On Direct Drive machines this often points to the rotor position sensor (Hall sensor) rather than the motor itself.

02 — Most common causes

  • A foreign object (coin, bra underwire, sock) jammed between the drum and outer tub
  • A failed Hall sensor on the back of the motor — a known wear item on LG Direct Drive motors
  • A seized rotor bolt or rusted rotor on washers in humid Florida garages

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Unplug the washer and remove any clothing from the drum.
  2. 2With the washer unplugged, gently rock the drum back and forth with one hand — it should move freely with only slight resistance.
  3. 3If you hear grinding or scraping, stop and call us; continued rotation with a foreign object trapped can damage the outer tub and motor.
  4. 4If the drum moves freely, plug back in and attempt a cycle — if LE returns, the Hall sensor needs professional replacement.

When to call us

Hall sensor replacement requires removing the rear panel and rotor — not a DIY job. Call our expert appliance repair team. LE is one of the most common LG codes we fix and we keep Hall sensors stocked for every Palm Beach County service truck.

OE Drain Error

01 — What it means

The washer did not drain within the expected time window. Water remains in the drum and the cycle will not progress. OE is among the top-three most common LG washer codes.

02 — Most common causes

  • Clogged drain pump filter (accessed via the lower-front access panel)
  • A kinked or clogged drain hose behind the washer
  • A failed drain pump motor — usually after 7 to 10 years

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Open the small access panel at the bottom-front of the washer, place a pan beneath, and drain the emergency drain hose.
  2. 2Unscrew the pump filter and clear coins, lint, and hair from the impeller area.
  3. 3Pull the washer forward and inspect the drain hose for kinks or high-point loops above 96 inches.
  4. 4Reinstall the filter, close the panel, and run a spin & drain test cycle.

When to call us

If the filter is clean and the hose is unobstructed but OE returns, the drain pump motor has failed. Our team replaces LG drain pumps same-day with a 90-day appliance repair warranty.

IE / 1E Water Inlet Error

01 — What it means

The washer did not receive enough water during the fill cycle. LG uses IE on most models and 1E on some newer front-loaders, but the diagnosis is the same.

02 — Most common causes

  • Partially closed hot or cold supply valves at the wall
  • Clogged inlet screens on the washer's fill hose connections
  • A failed water inlet valve solenoid on the washer itself

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Verify both supply valves at the wall are fully open.
  2. 2Turn the valves off and disconnect the fill hoses from the back of the washer.
  3. 3Remove the small mesh filter screens with needle-nose pliers and clean them under running water.
  4. 4Reinstall the screens, reconnect hoses hand-tight, turn valves back on, and test.

When to call us

If both hoses have water pressure but the washer still reports IE, the inlet valve has failed. Call our team — we stock LG inlet valves for every model and complete this repair same-day in Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and across the county.

FE / FE Error Water Overflow

01 — What it means

The water level sensor reported too much water in the tub. The washer immediately opens the drain pump to prevent a flood. FE stops the cycle until the fault is cleared.

02 — Most common causes

  • A stuck-open water inlet valve (continuing to fill after the board commands it to stop)
  • A clogged or kinked pressure sensor hose feeding the water level switch
  • A failed pressure sensor returning the wrong water level reading

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Unplug the washer immediately if water is still entering the drum.
  2. 2Shut off both supply valves at the wall.
  3. 3If the drum continues to fill with the washer unplugged, the inlet valve is mechanically stuck open and must be replaced.
  4. 4If the drum stops filling when unplugged, the pressure sensor or its hose is the likely cause.

When to call us

FE is a code to take seriously — a stuck-open inlet valve can flood a laundry room in minutes. Shut off the water and call us same-day. Our Palm Beach County team prioritizes FE calls because of the flood risk.

dE / dE1 / dE2 Door Open Error

01 — What it means

The washer cannot confirm the door is fully latched and locked. The cycle will not start or will pause mid-cycle. On LG front-loaders this is usually the door lock assembly; on top-loaders it is the lid switch.

02 — Most common causes

  • Laundry caught in the door seal preventing full closure
  • A worn door lock assembly (3 to 5 years on heavily used washers)
  • A failed door lock PTC (heating element inside the lock that holds the door closed)

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Open the door and check the rubber boot for trapped laundry or debris.
  2. 2Close the door with firm pressure until you hear a metallic click.
  3. 3If you do not hear the click, look at the door strike — if it is bent, the door was forced closed in the past.
  4. 4Unplug the washer for 10 minutes, then try one more cycle to rule out a control board glitch.

When to call us

Door lock replacement is a 30-minute repair with the right part. Our team stocks LG door lock assemblies for every front-load model. Call for same-day service — we handle LG dE codes routinely across Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and the county.
